What’s your goal in 2018? To get skinny or live well?
If your only goal is weight loss, you have a ton of options to choose from: Keto, Paleo, Whole30, or an all-Twinkie diet, for that matter. However, if the main goal of anything you attempt is weight loss, there are major issues you need to consider.
Weight loss occurs when your caloric intake is less than the number of calories you burn.
Burn more calories than you consume and presto! Weight loss. In my opinion, fitting into those skinny jeans is not nearly as important than the health of your insides. Sure, you can eat a diet of only bacon and lose weight, but you’re clogging your arteries and reducing blood flow to your heart. That won’t end well.
Healthy people need carbs, grains, legumes, and lots of vegetables.
Keto: Isn’t this just a reincarnation of the 90s Atkins diet that got a bad rap after the founder died overweight with a history of heart attacks? High protein and low carb is not the answer. Our bodies need carbs. Carbs are not the enemy. It’s all about choosing the right ones. Avoiding carbs triggers deprivation and who wants to sign up for that?
Paleo: There are a lot of good things about this diet: eating nuts, fruits, and vegetables and avoiding dairy, sugar, and many processed foods. The problem: lots of meat and no legumes or grains. Much of the low carb and Paleo justification relies on insulin and assumes that meat doesn’t release as much insulin as sugar. Wrong. Meat and sugar release about the same. Add Paleo to your Cross-fit routine and you are likely sabotaging your efforts.
Whole30: Again, a lot of great things about this diet in theory. The problem: no legumes or grains, sustainability, and the massive amount of time and money it takes to do this program. Is there anyone that ever continues after the 30 days? Paleo and Whole30 don't allow grains or legumes that our body needs.
All-Twinkie Diet: If I have to explain why this is a bad idea, I’m not your girl.
30 Day Transformation: Incorporates a whole-foods, plant-based approach with vegan supplements to fit into your busy life. Most importantly, you will learn why and how to make healthier choices as it relates to exercise, spacing between meals, bowel movements, gluten, sugar, food cravings, dairy, reintegration, and so much more. And yes, you will lose weight, get better sleep, have more energy, and improve your skin as a by-product.
Don’t judge your health based on your scale.
What you can’t see is more important than what you can see. If you only care about watching the scale go down, that’s not my jam. I can help if you want to get healthy and enjoy the process. Just give me 30 days. Next group starts January 15th.
